Sládková, Hana ; Köpplová, Barbara (advisor) ; Pelánová, Anita (referee)
The "Art-critique work of Jiri Setlik and Czech art critique of the 1960s" text describes the approach, sources and method of Jiri Setlik, important Czech theoretician and historician of art and art critic. The text follows his work in three different periods of the Czech afterwar art and art theory (1950s and 60s, the normalization period of 1970s and 80s and after the 1989). The structure of the first part of the text follows these periods, that represent different enviroment, possibilities and inspirations, mentioning the important cultural and art scene events, practical background of exhibiting, art writting, journalism or pUblishing and other circumstances that influenced the approach, style and work of Jiri Setlik and his colleagues. For each period, several art-critical texts of Jiri Setlik are selected, that are representative of his style development and also situation given by the culture and politics of that time. The second part of the text defines the art-critique method of Jiri Setlik in context of the contemporary art-critique theory and practice of 1960s, which is considered the most influential until today. Writing about art: the problems of interpretation of art and its conveying in media through the eyes of Czech art journalists
Laufer, David ; Hroch, Miloš (advisor) ; Čeňková, Jana (referee)
The bachelor's thesis Writing about art: the problems of interpretation of art and its conveying in media through the eyes of Czech art journalists deals with writing about fine art in media. First, it generally examines the influence of language and society on the definition of art, after which it focuses on the interpretation of works of art in art journalism, the limits of its arbitrarness and the role of the reader and the context. This theoretical knowledge is used in the practical part to analyze semi-structured in-depth interviews with respondents from the ranks of Czech art journalists. Their statements indicate the importance of careful choice of the composition of texts and the method of interpretation, which often depends on the specific nature of the described work of art or exhibition. In spite of these variables, this thesis shows generally preferred approaches of individual respondents to interpreting art. They either build their texts informatively and base their interpretations on the opinions of curators and artists' life stories, or they approach these external interpretations rather skeptically and stick to their own analysis. Respondents agree that in any case they influence the public's view of the often incomprehensible and insufficiently medialized contemporary art, which...
From art criticism to art journalism? Czech arts writing after 1989
Sládková, Hana ; Bednařík, Petr (advisor) ; Pachmanová, Martina (referee) ; Vančát, Jaroslav (referee) ; Petříček, Miroslav (referee)
The purpose of the disertation From Art Criticism to Art Journalism? Czech Arts Writing after 1989 is to find out how did the Czech politics and society transformation influence the character of art critique, particularly the visual arts reflection. How did the post-1989 art critique deal with the communist regime past and relics? How was the art critique influenced by the art development and by the changes in the media structure and functioning? Content analysis of selected periodicals texts from the 1990s enables us to follow if and how do the form and content of the visual arts reflecting texts mirror the communication, art and media character and structure development. The topic connects media and communication studies with visual studies and art theory. Hanka Sladkova
